Winter is out in full force here in Sydney. I walk on the street and hear people curse and slander Mother Nature for making the weather unbearable – well… to them anyway. I stand there and wonder what it is that people dislike winter. Is it the misty breath? Those loathsome parachute jackets? Oh I know, it must be them Ugg boots?
Personally, I love winter. I love everything about it. Don’t get me wrong. It is not as though I frolic around in the cold with my bare essentials. It’s just what you can wear during the cold season. Summer is great too, but you are pretty limited in what you can wear because the more you put on, the more likely it is you become a roast chicken. Winter provides the perfect environment to don everything that makes you look best – clothing and accessories.
Recently I purchased a cashmere Burberry scarf. When I told some of my friends how much it cost, their faces crinkled up and eyed me with disgust. It was as though I had found a litter of kittens and drowned them in a bath tub whilst laughing maniacally. But oh how their reactions had changed when they saw it in person, felt the softness of the fabric and impeccable quality. Totally and utterly sublime.
Ok, let us be real for a moment. You have read a few of my blogs now and I know some of you may be thinking that I only write about the expensive. Well… I have! Although the items aren’t completely out of reach, it isn’t completely cheap either. But that doesn’t mean that I am encouraging you all to empty your accounts and splurge. It’s all about spending wisely and purchasing things of quality – you know… things that will last. I’m not the biggest fan of following fads. I believe that when you purchase clothing, it needs to be timeless. Meaning that whenever you wear it, it is still fashionable and socially accepted.
In closing, I’d like you to explore what is out there. Sometimes small pieces of clothing or even simple accessories provide that extra oomph when it comes to looking great. Remember though, that expensive does not always equal fashionable. Mix and match until you find what is suitable. Let me know how you go!
